Capstone

Capstone

Adriana Guerrera is a senior at WHS who has been working with a 10 youth and 12 youth travel softball team, to help them focus on their physical and mental health, for her capstone.  Adriana wanted to ensure that they were prioritizing both aspects of their health, rather than just winning at such a young age. She dedicated her whole summer to these girls so that they don’t loose interest in the sport they love due to health.

Adriana wishes and hopes that what she has taught them continues on making their health a priority. She hopes that they will take these skills and use them to the best of their ability so they do not get burnt out as they get older. She wants to ensure that their physical health is recognized as well because injuries are a huge deal when you are a kid. She also explains that, “Since suicide rates in colleges athletes is so high right now, I want to make sure these girls never get to that point.” With her new knowledge on this topic she realizes how important sports are on your health especially when you start at such a young age. For an example, feeling stressed out or overworked can effect performance.  Adriana also says this helps the school in the future because they will have intrigued athletes that know how to handle hard situations and stressors, without feeling burnt out.

Adriana can relate this topic because she understands the struggles. She shares that she cares for these girls and wants to help them. However, if there was one thing she would go back and redo, she would have the athletes take a survey before and after to see if her help was directly beneficial. Adriana wants her capstone to be remembered at WHS. She hopes she can inspire someone else to do a capstone like hers.
