For December, Austin Deluca who is a Sophomore at WHS was awarded student of the month. Austin believes he received this award because of his active class participation and love for learning. Ms. Moher (Austin’s Spanish teacher) says, “Austin is an exemplary student! Austin comes to class each day ready to not only learn but to be a better student than he was when he entered the classroom. He is an active participant, asks valuable and meaningful questions, and is often the only student in the room that will follow-up with the teacher if something is unclear.”
Austin says that winning this award means that all of the hard work he is putting into school pays off. He looks up to his dad and brother because of how hard they work which is why pushes himself to do the best he can in his academic career. Throughout his first 2 years of high school, Austin learned how to manage his time when it comes to schoolwork. He strives to make sure it is a top priority for him since Austin is involved in Football and Lacrosse and is a member of the Unified Sports Club.
Austin’s goals by the time he leaves high school are to continue to be a successful student and graduate with high honors. He lives by the quote: ¨You miss 100% percent of the shots you don’t take,¨ by Wayne Gretsky. This is why Austin participates in class and takes the risks most people don’t think to take. Some advice he gave to students who would like to be awarded Student of the Month was to put in hard work in their classes and eventually, it will pay off and teachers will notice.
