For the month of December, Lana Kolpa has been chosen as Watertown’s Senior Student of the Month. She was nominated by Ms. Blatherwick and Ms. Wolf for being an exemplary and hard-working student. Both teachers agree that her kindness and persistence is shown through the multiple clubs she is a part of including, Best Buddies and Unified Sports. Ms. Wolf says, “Lana is a leader, volunteers her time and efforts regularly, and shows compassion and kindness for all students in our school to be sure all feel included.” Lana is in many extracurriculars including being the President of Leo Club and Best Buddies, Captain of Watertown’s Cross Country team and Unified Sports team, a member of Interact Club, and a part of Track and Field for the high school. Outside of school she is a junior member of the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Brass City Young Lifeteen which is a youth group at the St. John Evangelist Church in Watertown. It can go without saying that Lana is an extraordinary student and continues to make the most out of her time at Watertown High.
Lana says that ever since she was 10 years old, she has wanted to be a U.S. Marine. “The Marines became a role model to me at a very young age, and I have been working towards that goal ever since.” Lana’s father is a police officer and has also been an inspiration to her as he showed her what it means to serve others in her community. Lana plans on attending Fransican University in Steubenville, Ohio, to earn a bachelor’s degree in Theology. After that, she wants to work as a police officer or paramedic here in Watertown. Along with being a great student and an encouraging member of society, Lana has provided a great idea for a new club she would like to see Watertown include. She believes that a fitness club would be fun and bring people together by meeting once a month to do workouts together in the weight room at Watertown High School. During her free time, she enjoys working out at Steel Beach Gym and attends HIIT classes there which inspired this great idea.
Lana would like to thank Ms. Wolf and Ms. Blatherwick for supporting her and making her feel important at Watertown. Her biggest goals in life are to help others and achieve her dream careers. Lana believes that it’s important for underclassmen to, “Participate in sports and clubs here at the high school. It’s definitely a great way to help others, make friends, and have fun!”
