Alexis Crofford, a freshman in Art 1 Foundations, was awarded with Art Student of the Month for April. Art teacher, Ms. Uryase says she displays great effort in her artwork and challenges herself. An art project that really stood out to Alexis and her teachers was called “Line Project.” Students had to pick famous artists who they felt demonstrated a creative outlook they resonated with. Then students had to recreate the famous artists’ artwork as accurately as possible. Alexis said this was difficult because they were not allowed to shade any lines, meaning they could not create shadows on the drawing. She overcame this by making the lines “weighted.” This was her favorite project to do this year because she was able to be creative by picking an artist that she personally admired. “It was a good way to express myself and the art genres I like.”
Alexis believes art is important because, “It’s a good way to express yourself and your interests,” which can be fully achieved through creative freedom. She hopes her art classes would practice this more to enable students to reach their full potential. Alexis is very excited to take Art 2 Drawing and Painting next year as she’s been enjoying Art 1 Foundations. Alexis recommends Art 1 Foundations, “for students who want to take art because it’s simple and teaches you the basics of art.”
