On March 20th, the Concert and Chamber Choir visited New York City to watch the Broadway hit, Hamilton, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre! The musical tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, first secretary of the treasury, blending hip-hop and jazz, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The students arrived in NYC in the morning with the musical starting in the afternoon. While they waited, the students split into groups to discover the different stores and restaurants in Time Square.
Kiley Pienczykowski and Caleb McGaffey-Schipul are students from the WHS Chamber Choir and both recommend Hamilton to all lovers of theater. “Hamilton definitely shaped theater a lot,” as Caleb said believing that Hamilton was a major step forward for representation of people of color on Broadway. Some of the things he loved about the show was the turning stage during the performance. Kiley also enjoyed watching it on Broadway as she watched it at the Bushnell in Hartford, CT, last year. She prefers the Broadway version more because there was a cast member that was in the original cast of Hamilton in 2015. Watch this great musical off broadway on Disney+!
