WARNING: Includes many spoilers of Outer Banks Season 4
It’s safe to say that Outer Banks Season 4 left a lot of people feeling many emotions, especially me. I have never wanted to actually turn off my TV more. Before watching the season, I had reasonable expectations. I wanted everyone on the show to just make it through the season alive, and have a happy ending. It honestly isn’t too much to ask for, but for the directors, I guess it is.
OuterBanks, is a show based on a group of teens that search for legendary treasure. The Pogues, Kiara, John B., JJ, Sarah, and Cleo, are a group of teens that aren’t associated with the wealthy people of their town. After previously finding the Royal Merchant and finding gold, they, not surprisingly, lost all their money in season 4 season 4. Season 4, was divided into two parts and centered around the Pogues taking a deal with two men, Wes Generate and Chandler Groff. This deal meant that the Pogues had to find a blue royal crown in exchange for a fortune. This deal with Wes Generette and Chandler Groff was perfect to help them get their money back. However, things quickly took many turns.
One of the first shocking parts of the season was that JJ’s father, Luke, isn’t his biological dad—Chandler Groff is. This part left me with so many questions, especially when Luke had more to say, but JJ ran off before hearing the rest. Hopefully, season 5 will explain more about what Luke had to say before JJ ran off. Not only that, but it made me reconsider what Chandler’s intentions were. To want to make a deal with JJ, knowing that he is his son, and not saying anything, seemed suspicious.
In part 2, I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Pope and Sarah would escape their dangerous situation under the grave searching for clues to help find the blue crown. The Pogues are always putting themselves in these stupid situations. When they’re in these life or death situations, I can’t help but wish they had never accepted the deal with Wes Generate and Chandler Groff. Sometimes, I just wish they’d ditch all the treasure hunts and go do something normal, and actually live a regular teenage life.
One of the highlights, though, was the strong friendship between the Pogues. When Sarah found out she was pregnant, Kiara’s support showed how close they all are. And Pope’s decision to not join the Marines, just to stay with the Pogues, proved how much he values them. I didn’t want Pope to leave the Pogues either since he usually is the problem solver of the group.
The biggest shock came when JJ died. Why did the writers have to do that? It was horrible, and now all we can do is hope the blue crown somehow brings him back. It might not be likely, but it’s possible. There were a lot of horrible father figures in Outer Banks, but Chandler Groff proved to be the worst. The fact that he would kill his own son for some blue crown, is mind-boggling. It was hard to watch the Pogues reaction, let alone Kiaras. The Pogues were so close to accomplishing their goal to get the royal blue crown in exchange for a fortune, but when Chandler came out of nowhere and did that, he ruined it all. I don’t know why the writers decided to get rid of JJ, but it was not their best decision.
Will I be watching season 5? Maybe. Overall, I give this season a 6/10. It was good until the last episode when JJ dies. The writers should’ve stopped Outer Banks in season 3 after the Pogues found the gold and had their happily ever after. Season 4 just crushed the hope I had for the Pogues. It’ll never be the same, and whatever happens in season 5, it’s going to have to be pretty good to make up for everything that happened in season 4.
