Alice in Wonderland

Recently at Watertown High School, the students of the Drama Department performed the play, Alice in Wonderland on December 8th, 9th, and 10th. Olivia Carew and Clara Pizzolorusso were the Student Directors who wrote and directed the play alongside Director Foster Evan Reese. Harrison Gowell, who is a sophomore at WHS, shared that the cast and crew were very welcoming and created a positive environment. Harrison and Rosemarie Michell received the honor of playing two of the main roles: The Mad Hatter and Alice. Harrison shares that he took his role very seriously and tried his best to make his performance larger than life since he has been so dedicated from the beginning. He also shared that this play portrayed Disney’s Cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland, with a tad more of realistic scenes. The play’s script and scenes are solely based on the book.

Alongside the cast, the stage crew was a huge help in making this production successful. Mr. Mathews Wood’s class helped build the set, members of the Nationals Honor Society painted the scenery, and Erin Pienczyowski, a senior at WHS, designed all of the marking materials for the play.

Clara was very pleased with how well everyone was in touch/connected with their characters even after minor complications such as scheduling. Rosemarie Mitchell, Harrison Gowell, Sophia Gugliotti, and Mailyn Santana played their leading roles as Alice, Mad Hatter, Red Queen, and The White Rabbit better than she imagined and she wanted to give them a special shoutout. The cast and crew are all very pleased with themselves and their performances and cannot wait to play next year.
