We Were Liars Book Review
We Were Liars, by E. Lockhart, is a young adult thriller that came out in 2014 and is an “ambitious novel with an engaging voice, a clever plot and some terrific writing,” according to the New York Times. It keeps readers on their toes, with unexpected twists and turns throughout. The book is about Cadence Sinclair Eastman, and her accident during the summer she was 15. She had a severe head injury which causes selective memory loss, resulting in her entire extended family lying to her about what actually happened that summer. They waited a long time for her memories to come back until she figures out her whole summer has been a lie.
I give this book an 8.5 out of 10. It had a very slow start, but halfway through the book started to hook me in. The chapters began to end on cliffhangers, and the truth about Cady’s summer started to fill in. The ending had a crazy plot twist by showing us what actually happened in summer ‘15, which I think was a great way to end the book. The ending didn’t leave me with a hundred questions or keep me confused. It ended perfectly and connected all the dots that were strung throughout the book.
