Kira Jijer, a senior at Watertown High School, is working to create an adoptable dance class with Sun Moon and Stars; an organization that creates more opportunities with kids with autism. On Saturday, March 4th, she organized her first dance class at the Senior Center with a total of 7 kids. Kira taught them simple dance moves that got the kids intrigued and excited for the next three classes.
Dance has always been Kira’s genuine passion. She enjoys working with children, therefore she wanted to combine her passions for her capstone. In the end, she hoped the kids would enjoy themselves.“This experience made me more aware of dealing with kids who have autism and it made me feel for not only them but for their parents as well,” she says. Kira plans to major in special education, and she considered this an excellent way to begin on that career path.
