Sports Update

In March, Watertown High School’s spring sports season took off. Sports like girls’ and boys’ outdoor track, co-ed golf, girls’ and boys’ tennis, girls’ and boys’ lacrosse, softball, and baseball have begun . The baseball team this year has gotten a new coach, Rico Brongo. He is an alumni from WHS, from 1988, and went straight to play for the Detroit Tigers.  He played for about 10 seasons in the MLB. 

The Cheerleading team placed 2nd at States in New Haven on March 4th. Captains Julia Hines, Alexa Philippi, and Payton Howard are very proud of the girls and their hard work. The Boys’ Swim and Dive team placed 6th at NVLs thanks to Cole DeMond, Anthony Mascolo, and Emma Nugai. Emma placed 4th in states and competed at State Opens on March 17th. 

On March 2nd, the World Language Honor Society held a volleyball tournament for all students and teachers to participate. This event was to raise money for the Spanish Coalition of Greater Waterbury. There were 11 teams in total and the teacher team won the overall tournament. This was one of the biggest and most successful event. They hope to continue this volleyball tournament in years to come to promote a sense of community and further interest in the World Language Honor Society.
