The December Junior Student of the Month is Olivia Van Dyke. Olivia was selected by Ms. Cava—her French 4 Honors teacher—for her hard work she does in every class. She is a great role model for the students of WHS, and is always willing to help her peers in French class. Olivia is also the Vice President for World Language Honors Society, which she feels helped her to achieve this accomplishment. She was surprised when she was told she was student of the month. Regardless, it feels very rewarding to her, and she is happy to see her hard work is being acknowledged. To Olivia, receiving this award means a lot to her because of the recognition she is receiving for the time, involvement, and energy she puts into school and her work everyday. Throughout the previous two years she has attended high school, she has improved on being independent and has learned to become a problem solver, which she feels helped her to receive Student of the Month.
Outside of classes and school, Olivia is a part of Math Honor Society, Student Council, is a class officer for the class of 2025, and is on the Girl’s Soccer and Track team. Her favorite subject, and the subject she excels in, is math. She is also enjoying AP US history right now. Some of her role models she looks up to are Ms. L Guerrera and Mr. Rinaldi. She also looks up to her parents and is inspired by their accomplishments everyday. With this, one of Olivia’s personal goals she has for herself is becoming valedictorian for the class of 2025. With hard work and determination, she feels she will be able to accomplish this goal for herself. Olivia is influenced by the quote, “hard work pays off” because it “helps her to stay motivated.” Her advice to any students hoping to become a potential future student of the month is to work hard and to have a positive attitude, even when it seems tough!
