The Freshman Student of the Month for January was Mia Melendez. Mia was shocked to receive student of the month, stating how, “It feels like an honor. [She’s] very happy that [she] got it and it shows [her] that all [her] hard work is paying off.” She believes she got Student of the Month because she tries her best in all her classes, getting all her work done and studying her hardest.
Her transition from middle school to high school has been pretty good, saying the workload was a lot more but still manageable. Mia has been pushing herself by taking more classes that weren’t available at the middle school and feels like her “skills are advancing” from taking harder classes and learning new things. Her goals in high school are to stay on the honor roll, keep up good grades, and take advantage of her many opportunities.
Mia’s favorite subject is chorus because it’s exciting, she likes to sing, and it’s a break from the more tied-down classes. Her role models are all her teachers, as “they are all very helpful.” For extracurriculars she participates in the school’s musical, Interact Club, and Book Club. Mia’s advice for students who want to become a student of the month is to work hard and try their best in school!
