There’s always something special about a family owned local mom and pop shop, especially when it is a new addition in town. Oakville Kitchen was opened by the original owners of what was previously owned, Johnny’s of Waterbury. They serve breakfast and lunch options, and bring a mix of Albanian culture to their food. The restaurant delivers an experience of tradition, warmth, and hospitality. “Hopefully they [customers] feel a warm and welcoming atmosphere, something that is cozy and comfortable,” said Johnny, one of the owners at Oakville Kitchen.
With a variety of items on the menu, there is plenty to choose from. Whether you’re looking for traditional dishes like their Balkan Bowl, or modern options with a familiar taste like their Watertown Burger, Oakville Kitchen is a great spot for diverse cravings. “We try to bring some twists here,” commented Johnny.
The charm of this new restaurant extends beyond the food. After owning Johnny’s for 12 years, the family ended up selling the business and thought they were done in the restaurant industry. However, when this spot in Oakville opened up, they saw it as a great opportunity to continue their business. Originally the owners are from Albania, and they always wanted to have a business. “My parent’s dream was always to open a restaurant…for them that’s the American dream.” Johnny and his parents are a hardworking family and it is proven by the quality and consistency of their food.
When walking into the restaurant, I decided to try their New York, New York Roll, which comes with bacon, eggs, cheese, hash browns, salt, pepper, ketchup, and garlic aioli on a roll. It was great! The flavor combination was savory and delicious! After I was finished, I was left feeling satisfied. I definitely recommend trying it, since it is a great breakfast sandwich!
If you’re looking for a dining experience that’s both comforting and yummy, Oakville Kitchen is a must-visit! The variety on the menu ensures there is something for everyone, while providing the opportunity to explore Albanian cuisine. It’s clear that this is not just a business, but a heartfelt passion.
