BLM Lawsuit
Black Lives Matter Grassroots, a branch of the BLM organization that focuses on local work in black towns and neighborhoods, sues BLM executive Shalomyah Bowers for allegedly stealing 10 million dollars from donations. A lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on June 4th, 2020, by the BLM Grassroots branch, accuses an executive in the BLM organization for supposedly siphoning millions of dollars in donations directly into their personal possession. They claim that by doing this, Shalomyah Bower’s actions will damage the BLM organization and attract unwanted legal attention. The lawsuit states, “This is the case of a rogue administrator, a middleman, turned usurper, who was hired to collect donations and account for expenditures of the Black Lives Matter movement.” These accusations would mean that millions of dollars intended to help people in the black community would’ve been wrongly stolen from for the personal gain of an administrator.
One subject that has been brought up against the leaders of BLM is the report of a 6 million dollar property they were said to have bought. When this was brought to the executives attention they dismissed it as misinformation and false allegations. In response to many other of these accusations more higher ups in the organization have come out to say, “Either Melina Abdullah and BLM Grassroots blatantly and intentionally lied with this allegation in order to garner salacious news headlines, or they simply failed to do their due diligence before making such a wild and unfounded accusation.” This rebuttal accuses the Grassroots branch of making completely false claims to intentionally ruin the reputation of the management behind BLM.
Looking over these key points it’s not hard to wonder what this dispute will do to the entirety of the BLM organization and who of these two sides is truly in the wrong.
