Spirit Week & Student Council

Spirit Week, running from November 14th-18th this year, is a week full of liveliness that the Student Council runs to give kids something to look forward to, and to bring school spirit into the halls before Homecoming. The Student Council, and students who join the meetings, create the different Spirit Week theme days.

This year’s themes are “Mismatch Monday”, “Rewind: Blast From the Past”, “Class Color Wars”, “Fast Forward: Dress like your future self”, and “School spirit day”. For Monday, students and staff can dress up in their craziest, unmatching patterns that they would never normally wear together. On Tuesday, they can either recreate an old photo of themself or dress up in a theme from the past such as the 20s or 80s. Wednesday is when each class wears the color for their grade; freshmen wear green, sophomores wear red, juniors wear blue, and seniors wear orange. Thursday is a day to dress up as what you believe you will look like in the future. This could be a soccer mom, a golf dad, etc. Friday is the day students will go all out in the school colors – black and orange.

Student Council started spirit week in 2014 when a group of students brought the idea to the Student Council advisors, Ms Belle and Ms Loughlin. Mrs. Belle enjoys seeing everyone’s creativity, as “it shows part of people’s personalities” based on what they choose to wear each day. “It gives people a chance to show off something you don’t know about them,” Belle explains.

The student council also discussed bringing back Fun Fridays, which are themed spirit days once a month during the school year. If students want to join the Student Council, see a meeting, or pitch an idea, they can attend a meeting. These meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

Every week a post sharing weekly news comes out on the Google classroom for each grade level. If a student wants to be involved but can not make a meeting, they can refer to the Google form on the flyer that allows the student to share their ideas. At their meetings, they discuss the various suggestions, concerns, positive comments, etc that get shared anonymously through the Google form. If a student has an idea but doesn’t have the time to go to a student council meeting, they can always use this google form to voice their opinions.
