WHS Alumni Author
On December 2nd,, Kelly Andrew, a WHS alumni and author of The Whispering Dark, visited Watertown once again to explain the process of writing for any aspiring authors and to promote her new book. Andrew explained that inspiration she followed to write her book was mostly daydreaming, looking at Pinterest, and listening to Spotify. Andrew suggests to students who want to pitch their book idea, to follow the “Elevator Pitch.” The “Elevator Pitch” is a 30 second explanation with an easy flow and not a lot of specifics. The length of explanation is as long as an elevator ride. This is to make the agent or whoever is listening, to engage in the plot without being dragged on. She also gave some tips about what publishing agents want.
Andrew graduated from Watertown High School in 2008 and continued her learning experiences in a Boston college. At a young age, she lost hearing and then later got a cochlear implant and learned to use her disability as a strength and not as a weakness. She uses the implant as a symbol for the main character in her new book, The Whispering Dark. Anyone who wants to follow her progress can check out her instagram: @Kayaydrew
