Don’t Worry Darling; 2022 Movie Review

Don’t Worry Darling, a 2022 film by Olivia Wilde, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, takes place in the 1950’s and revolves around a housewife living in an experimental community as she begins to question exactly what her husband and his mysterious company are hiding from her. This movie is initially captivating. It sets a beautiful scene and everything in the town of Victory seems to be perfect. The wives get to take advantage of the luxury of their seemingly ideal town while the husbands are off to work. Alice, the main housewife, is forced to ponder her purpose in Victory when fractures in her picture-perfect life start to reveal glimpses of something sinister lurking beneath the surface.

It takes a while for the movie to reveal itself as frightful, but once the Alice snaps into reality, Florence’s acting is in a much more realistic manner than everyone else’s. Florence’s acting was very well done, but after her breakdown, the movie never expands past it. Nothing else is introduced after, and the movie lacked a lot of development. In my personal opinion, this movie was a missed opportunity and it could have been much better. The ending is certainly a let down, there was no elaboration and leaves the audience with little to no detail. Similar thrillers, like The Truman Show, World on a Wire, and The Matrix are all movies I think Don’t Worry Darling could take notes from.

I enjoyed watching this movie. The actors were picked perfectly for this role, but it definitely disappointed me seeing as the plot had so much potential it unfortunately did not live up to.
