In the month of December, the Watertown High School winter sports teams, which include Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Boys’ Swim & Dive, Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track, Boys’ and Girls’ Ice Hockey, and Wrestling, started off with excitement and joy for the 2022-23 season. Players continued to practice hard as days rolled by and games or meets came up. Here’s how the season is going so far for these teams.

For the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team, they have a nice season going with a record of 5-7 so far. As well as the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team, with a record of 1-12 so far for the season.

For the Boys’ Swim and Dive team, swimmers worked hard to get where they are at currently. Especially one notable swimmer, Anthony Mascolo, who does great at many of the events. Some of those include the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, and more.

For the Boys’ and Girls’ Track season, many runners came to realize their strengths when running certain events, and made new personal records for the season. Recently, the team ran for the NVL Championships, where the guys scored 35 points and placed 4th overall, and the girls scored 82 points and placed 3rd overall. Athletic Director Mr. Catuccio states, “We just had our indoor track championships and we had some athletes who performed really well. Ryann Walsh is one of the girls who did really well, who won a few events and scored lots of points for the team.”

For the Girls’ Ice Hockey team, two students joined a co-op team with Avon High School. The team currently has an exceptional season going with an impressive record of 9-1. For the Boys’ Ice Hockey team, they are having a good season with a record so far of 6-6.

For the Wrestling team, a few people also joined a collaborative team with Pomperaug due to the small number of people joining. At meets, the wrestlers perform well and the team is doing good and will continue to do so.
