Mrs. Beres, one of WHS’s new staff members, has been teaching in Watertown for 23 years. She has taught every subject in sixth grade but mostly science at Swift Middle School. She also taught seventh grade math, but last year she taught Exploring Technology. She studied math at CCSU and attended Trinity College to study Biology. Afterwards she studied teaching at St. Joseph’s University. This year, she’s currently teaching Exploring Technology, Web Design, Robotics, and Business Dynamics.
Mrs. Beres transferred because she thought that, “starting a new course in robotics would be a fun, exciting opportunity,” This adds another teacher to the CTE Department. She originally wanted to be a veterinarian but the long hours were too excessive while having a young son. She decided to think about her past careers and realized throughout all of them there was always an aspect of teaching; becoming a teacher came naturally.
Outside of teaching, she enjoys hanging out with her dog, boating, and Scuba Diving. An interesting fact about her is that she has a love for music! She originally wanted to teach music but instead does music recreationally. She plays in three hand bell choirs in CT.
Some goals she has for this year are to help students learn while also learning herself! She hopes at the same time that she can make learning fun. Her advice to students is, “to always work hard in school so that you have more options later in life. Pursue things because you want to, not because you have to.”
Overall, Mrs. Beres loves the WHS community! She’s been a part of the Robotics team since 2012 so she’s been a part of it for a while. She loves the staff and she thinks WHS is a wonderful community.
