Music Department Goes to New York
On November 9th, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Tri-M, and Band went to New York City to see Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge, which takes place in 1899, is a play about an Englishman who goes to Paris, and falls in love with a performer at the Cabaret. Even though he has a fling with this girl, she is being given a Duke to marry after funding her manager’s production. Throughout the play, the audience questions who she is going to end up with.
The students loved the play since it was half comedy and half romance, more than a serious musical. The students loved the soundtrack, which was labeled as a “jukebox musical” because it features pre-written hit songs from artists that aren’t written by Broadway artists. Some features are “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” By Beyoncé, and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. After the musical, students explored a bit of NYC. Students went out to lunch, went into different shops, and visited famous tourist spots.
