Watertown High School brought holiday spirit to local families and children in need, with a Giving Tree, located in the front lobby. This idea was supported by the Watertown Food bank. Working with this collaboration, the program collects a list of local families and children in need during the holiday season. The school community was encouraged to donate gifts and help spread kindness and to make sure every child experiences giving and receiving. Participation was open to anyone who walked through the high school doors, including students, staff, family members, and community guests.
To participate,a tag could be picked from the tree. Tags include a gift idea along with the price, which participants purchased and return it unwrapped to WHS. WHS also accepted wrapping paper and gift bags for families in need.
The idea was started by Mrs.Mordenti, a member of the staff spirit team, with the help from Mrs.Plourde, the Assistant Principal. The staff spirit team is a group where any staff member can volunteer their time to get together and design activities that support a strong positive school culture for staff and students.
The Giving Tree spreads positivity in our community by “Bringing joy and support to the people who live locally with us,’’ Mrs. Plourde said. The main goal of The Giving Tree is to ensure that everyone in the community feels supported and cared for during the holiday season.
