Exam season is approaching this year for all grades, especially for upperclassmen. Here’s a look at the upcoming testing schedule for all grades.
The SAT will occur on March 31st; WHS will follow a half-day schedule. The SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test, is a standardized college entrance exam that measures a student’s skills in reading, writing, and math. Increasingly, colleges are using SAT scores as part of their admissions process. All juniors are required to attend school to complete the SAT. Meanwhile, freshmen, sophomores, and seniors will have an alternate study option where they can practice job shadowing, earn community service hours, or to catch up on work in the cafeteria or library.
In addition to the SAT, the NGSS for juniors will occur on April 22nd. The Next Generation Science Standards is a required assessment that measures an understanding of scientific concepts, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) testing will take place from May 4th-May 15th. AP exams allow students to earn college credit, depending on their scores and the college’s policies. Each AP test will be administered on its designated date:
May 4th: AP Biology at 8AM
May 5th: AP Chemistry at 8AM
May 5th: AP U.S. Government and Politics at 12PM
May 6th: AP English Literature and Composition at 8AM
May 6th: AP Physics 1 at 12PM
May 7th: AP Modern World History at 8AM
May 7th: AP Statistics at 12PM
May 8th: AP U.S. History at 8AM
May 11th: AP Seminar at 12PM
May 12th: AP Psychology at 12PM
May 13th: AP English Language and Composition at 8AM
AP Seminar and AP Research students are also required to submit performance tasks in a digital portfolio. AP Art: 3D and AP Studio Art will submit their portfolios to College Board for review in May. Most AP scores will be released in July.
For seniors, there may be the possibility of final exam exemptions. Seniors who maintained a 90 or higher average for the entire year, or semester if it’s a half year course, may be exempt from their final exam if permitted by their teacher. With many important assessments scheduled throughout the year, students are encouraged to stay organized, communicate with teachers, and take advantage of available study resources to feel confident and prepared.
