Cheerfest

Cheerfest

Cheerfest, one of the largest fundraisers held at WHS, is a cheerleading competition that was held by the Watertown High School cheerleaders on February 11th. WHS has been hosting Cheerfest for more than ten years as a chance to bring all of the teams together to showcase their skills and dedication. The money raised from this event supports cheer camp, clothing and other essentials, as well as providing an enjoyable chance to interact with others. The cheerleaders help in selling 50/50 raffle tickets, guiding cheerleaders to their warm-up areas and the classrooms where they will be staying, as well as generally assisting in the smooth running of the competition. The competition’s success was greatly aided by the efforts of parents and other volunteers/local businesses who donated food and gift cards to our competition. Students who opted to join and assist were also given community service hours.

There were 30 teams present that Saturday afternoon not including our cheerleading team. Each team performs to get the highest placing in their category. Some categories include Middle Schools, Junior Varsity and All Girl Varsity. WHS does not compete in this competition but rather showcases their routine, get a total scoring at the end, as well as raises money.

The weeks leading up to the event were incredibly stressful. Coaches Miranda, Chelsie and Nick put a lot of effort into preparing, which is well appreciated. The team appreciates what the coaches do for them. Coach Miranda said she was most looking forward to “seeing all of the teams because I know how hard our team works all season so I know all of the other teams are putting in the same amount of work and overcoming all of the same challenges we are. To be able to see them perform and work together is probably my favorite part.” The WHS cheer team appreciates the support and love we were shown on the 11th and cannot wait until next year!
