Holocaust Survivor

Endre Sarkany, a Holocaust survivor, spoke to the students at WHS on February 5. On October 31st, 1936, Endre was born in Budapest, Hungary. This courageous man shared his earliest memories of the World War II. He has given speeches at more than 80 schools, sharing his knowledge of life between 1941 and 1945.

He included photographs of his house, family, and the streets of Hungary in his slideshow presentation. He firmly believes in the effectiveness of love and hope. He wants to change the violence and prejudice that dominated the world during his time. He reveals that most of what was happening during World War II was an action known as “bystanding,” and he urged the students at WHS to “become an outstander, speak up when it is appropriate, and do not procrastinate.” WHS is grateful to Endre for visiting the school to inspire students to work toward peace and love while also providing a different viewpoint on World War II from someone who actually lived through it.
