The WHS World Language Honors Society will host their annual volleyball tournament on Thursday, April 9th, at 2:30 in the gym. All funds raised will be in support of the Spanish Coalition for Greater Waterbury. The fee to participate will be $5 per person if signed up by April 8th, and then $6 if paid on the day of the tournament.
Students can sign up for the tournament by scanning QR codes located on the WLHS instagram, or posters in the hallways. They will draft teams of 6-8 players and appoint a team captain. Participants will play in a single elimination bracket against other teams for the change to win gift cards from various companies around town. The society welcomes anybody to come and spectate, or play in the event.
The World Language Honors Society recognizes the students who reflect exceptional skill in either Spanish or French. These students must complete a minimum of three years in their language, and maintain a grade point average of 90 or higher. Being inducted into the society is an honor that allows students to join an exclusive group of dedicated students. The WLHS members are active participants in their community, often donating their time or money to important causes that reflect the values of the group. In the past they have donated to the NAACP, Cultural Appreciation, and local food pantries. This time around, they are asking for the school’s participation and support as they look to put on their volleyball tournament.
