Incoming or current students at WHS interested in pursuing a mechanical or engineering career have recently been offered a unique opportunity to work with Connecticut College of Technology (COT) as part of the manufacturing and engineering pathway program. This program includes three tiers designed as a pathway to follow the standard four years at WHS to offer an enriching educational experience. By completing one tier per year, students can earn an Associates Degree including 17.5 high school credits and 86 CT State credits.
Students who are currently enrolled in this program in connection with CTE teacher, Mr. Mathews’ AutoCAD course, follow the first tier model this year which includes the Computer Aided Design User Certification. Students are experimenting with engineering drawing using 3D softwares such as AutoCAD and Solidworks. In addition, COT brings students to their campus to access these 3D software programs every Friday as an initiative for hands-on learning. As a result of taking this first tier course during the 25-26 school year, students will earn a total of 9 college as well as 1.5 high school credits that are transferable to any state or community college in Connecticut.
To accomplish this all three tiers must be completed before graduation; it’s recommended that students enroll their freshman year of high school as each tier is designed to be completed during a single school year. If students are interested in taking this course more information and details can be provided by Mr. Peruguni, and their guidance counselor.
