AP Psychology students will get the opportunity to unwind after a grueling year of academics, by participating in the annual flour baby project. This project, put together by Mr. Hennessey, gives students a slight window into the life of parenthood. Participants receive a sack of flour that represents a child they have to care for. Over the duration of the project, students must protect the baby from any injuries (holes, crushed spots, leaks), take good care of them (clothes, cleanliness, babysitter when needed) and protect their safety by never losing sight of them. Any violations of this criteria may result in a point deduction on the project.
This project lends itself easily to the AP Psychology curriculum, specifically their unit on development. Students will get a more hands on experience of these stages of development and generate their own parenting style over the course of this project.
Participating AP Psych student, Ava Perreault, says, “Flour babies are one the most exciting projects for my peers and I. I’ve looked forward to it all of high school!” Overall, this project is one of the many things AP students get to look forward to, and a great way for them to finish the school year.
