On Monday, April 27th, Jordyn Pelletier and Mya Smith were recognized with the Beau Doherty-Mike Savage Unified Sports Teammate Award for their outstanding participation in Unified Sports. The honorees, who represented both students with, and without intellectual disabilities, have consistently demonstrated what true sportsmanship looks like.
These students, both seniors at WHS, have been dedicated 4-year long participants in the Unified Sports program. Over this time, they have elevated the Unified Sports team and strengthened school culture, proving that inclusive athletics benefits everyone involved. This recognition is an understatement of what they have meant to this school and community at large.
On this night, families, peers, and school staff gathered to celebrate the recipients from Watertown, and all other participating schools in the state. It made for an exciting and beautiful night that represented the exact mission of the special olympics: unity. As this season concludes, Jordyn and Mya leave behind an impact that will prosper in years to come.
