On November 13th, 14th, and 15th, the Watertown High School Theater Department performed a stagadaptation of The Truman Show, a film with themes of freedom, independence, and the fact that in a world of technology, not everything the media tells you is the truth. These themes inspired Student Director Kiley Pienczykowski to take the challenge of turning this movie into an on-stage production, which went remarkably well.
Alongside Kiley were the hard-working Stage Managers Sara Dishnica and Eleanor Makarewicz, who helped bring the play to life by directing the paint and build crew to create the set. In addition, they directed the run crew during their many scene changes. Sound Director, Juliette Molina, worked hard on microphones to make sure all of the cast sounded their best. Likewise, Pit Director, Ava Stango, found and wrote music for the Pit Orchestra to perform, and Cameron Longi choreographed the dance scene. Finally, this show couldn’t have been done without Michael Mitchell, better known as Truman Burbank. As the lead, he admits it was a bit challenging to learn so many lines, but he was honored to be cast as Truman.
In case you missed it, the Watertown Theater Department will return in March to perform a production of the 1992 film and Broadway musical, Sister Act. They hope to see you there!
