Sister Act follows the story of Deloris Van Cartier, described as a flamboyant disco singer played by senior, Jeilianny Quispe. After witnessing a murder, Deloris is placed in protective custody and disguises as a nun under the name Sister Mary Clarence. While adjusting to convent life, Deloris clashes with Mother Superior, the head of the convent, which is played by sophomore, Alexa Serpas. Despite their differences, Deloris revitalizes the convent’s struggling choir by blending gospel music with disco-inspired energy. Curtis Jackson, played by junior, Daniel Viacava, plays a nightclub owner as well as Deloris’s boyfriend. In the musical he then becomes obsessed with finding her after finding out she goes into the witness protection program.
Behind the scenes, Mr. Sulzicki, the WHS band teacher, is conducting the pit orchestra while Mrs. Poliquin, the Music Department Coordinator, led vocal instruction for the cast and is also playing piano in the pit. The stage managers this year are Eleanor Makarewicz and Sara Dishnica. In addition to the production itself, the WHS auditorium has received several new additions this winter. New lighting has been installed to enhance the overall viewing experience, along with upgraded sound equipment and microphones. These technical improvements are guided by Juliette Molina (sound manager) and Samantha Martinelli (lights).
Sister Act is directed by Foster Reese and produced by Mindi Davidson. Businesses and parents interested in purchasing student shout-outs/business shout-outs in the playbill should contact Mindi Davidson. With its energetic music, talented cast, and newly upgraded auditorium, Sister Act promises to be an entertaining and memorable musical!
