Art Students were given a chance to attend a field trip to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. This destination is one of the largest and most well-established gardens in the U.S, covering 250 acres of land with beautiful walking paths and impressive greenhouses. Students were given the day to explore and take pictures in small groups; this trip created a completely unique experience for this exclusive group of students by letting them explore a variety of ecosystems with all kinds of plants.
According to one of the teacher supervisors, Mrs. Schlatter, the botanical garden was chosen for the field trip because of its one of a kind Van Gogh exhibit. What makes the Van Gogh exhibit special is its ability to turn Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic paintings into a 3-D plant experience. The exhibit features projections of his most famous works, including Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Irises. Van Gogh was deeply inspired by nature, shown in his paintings often featuring plants, flowers, and landscapes that mirror the ones found in the gardens. This combination of nature and art provides a one of a kind learning experience where students can appreciate both the scientific and artistic value that the world has to offer. Overall, Mrs. Schlatter hopes the students took away the lesson that “inspiration from art takes many forms and can sometimes be unexpected.”
