Undergrounds Record Cafe

Undergrounds+Record+Cafe

Dean and Nick Cilfone opened Undergrounds Record Cafe in Oakville, on December 5th, to become more connected with the community where they were born and raised. The father and son duo established and created a unique cafe to share their love for food and records with Watertown. The cafe is located at 206 Main St Oakville, and is open everyday but Tuesdays.

The idea of a coffee shop and a record store merging is admirably innovative, which Dean Cilfone discussed more, mentioning how “It was really the merging of two passions: my son loves to cook, and I love music.” Nick Cilfone, the chef and co-owner of Undergrounds Record Cafe spoke a bit about his inspiration and the menu for the shop. His grandmother, whom he had grown up watching cook for him and her other grandchildren, told him before passing away that he would “be a great chef someday.” With this understanding, he knew he had to be different from the other restaurants in Watertown; which had him choosing a brunch menu suitable for anyone’s cravings.

Upon stopping in, the shop is comfortable and welcoming to all customers. The first time was purely a study date between a few friends and me – and, might I add, a great setting for studying. The coffee is excellent and reminds me of an old, diner-like coffee roast rather than most coffee drinks today. A few items I’ve tried off the menu were the Breakfast Burrito and PB and J Bowl, and both dishes were delicious. The Breakfast Burrito is a customer favorite with the perfect spice thrown in, and the PB and J Bowl tastes sweet with a slightness of the peanut butter’s bitterness to even the flavors. The prices are good for how well done the food is, very fair and work good for each item. The food is outstanding, the coffee is scrumptious with a considerable variety, and the workers are sweet to everyone. Undergrounds Record Cafe is worth the visit!
