After nearly 30 years of business, Barnes & Noble in Waterbury, Connecticut will close on January 18th, 2026. A business spokesman has attested in a facebook post from the store, that due to the lease ending, they have chosen to close indefinitely. They wrote in the post, “We have loved being a part of this neighborhood, and it has been our honor and privilege to be your bookseller for the last 28 years.” In the closing weeks, Barnes & Noble will be issuing a 50% blowout sale on all books, games, and other select items.
While the Waterbury location is coming to a close, customers should not worry about the prosperity of the book seller as a whole. Barnes & Noble has plans to open 60 more stores nationwide, and claim their business is “booming.” In solidarity with their loyal customers, Barnes & Noble invites their patrons to take their business to the Cheshire location: 991 Highland Ave., Suite C310, at The Shops at Stone Bridge.
Store owners continue to express their gratitude on Facebook to the Waterbury area for their support over the multi-decade tenure in the city, “Thank you for your continued patronage, which is greatly appreciated by all the booksellers here at Barnes & Noble,” the store said.
