The Watertown High School softball field was officially renamed “The Keith Borkowski Softball Field” on March 23rd, 2026, after Coach Keith Borkowski- who coached for over 45 years and is an integral part of WHS’s athletic program. At a recent Board of Education meeting, Borkowski was presented with a home plate to honor his hard work and dedication, with the inscription, “Coach, Mentor, and Friend, Shaping softball players and lives since 1992.” Borkowski was also recently a Watertown Wall of Honor Inductee with a plaque representing his legacy, in the front entrance of Watertown High School.
Borkowski graduated from WHS in 1975 and began his coaching career at WHS in 1981 as the Junior Varsity Football Coach, a position he still holds today. He then became the Softball Coach at WHS in 1992. Borkowski also served as the Athletic Coordinator for SMS for 5 years. Since 1996, he has been Chairman of the NVL Softball Coaches. Beyond coaching, he has had a remarkable career in officiating. He has been the Umpire in Chief for USA, PONY, NSA, and the State of Connecticut for over 45 years! Alongside this, Borkowski has also been a member of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-State Committee for over 25 years.
In the past, he’s received many honors and recognitions such as being inducted into the WHS Golf Ring and the Grid Iron Club Hall of Fame. He also worked for the Watertown Parks & Recreation Department for 25 years. In 2017, he was nominated as a finalist for the National High School Coaches Association Coach of the year.
