WHS+Football+and+Cheer+Team

The Watertown High School sports season has come to an end, and the most notable achievements of each team’s successful season were the field hockey team becoming Berkshire league champions, the girls’ soccer team making the semi finals in states, the boys’ soccer team  beating Holy Cross on senior night, the cross country team’s runner, Alex Cole, becoming the NVL champion, the volleyball team beating Naugatuck twice, four of the girls’ Swim & Dive team swimmers making states, and the football team winning their final game on Thanksgiving.

The field hockey team had an amazing season with a record of 11-3-1, becoming the Berkshire league champions and earning a banner for their accomplishments. Along with their achievements, they made it to states. Unfortunately, they lost in the first round against Northwest Catholic with a score of 1-0, but finished 5th overall!

Girls’ soccer also had a great season with a final record of 15-4-1. In the NVLs, they placed second overall, unfortunately losing to Woodland in the championship with a score of 1-0. They also made the state tournament, making it to the semifinals, though, losing 5-0 against Northwest Catholic, and placing 8th overall in state.

The boys’ soccer team ended the season off with a record of 9-4-3. In the NVLs, they placed 5th. They ranked 20th overall throughout the state after losing the quarter finals in the state tournament with a score of 4-0 against Tolland.

The cross country record for the season was 7-4, and the boys’ team placed 3rd and the girls’ team placed 7th, throughout 15 teams in the NVLs. In states, the boys’ team placed 8th and the girls’ team placed 18th overall. One star runner, Alex Cole, was the cross country NVL champion and an all state runner.

The volleyball team had a season record of 7-11, but was one game away from going to NVLs and did not qualify for the state tournament. Although they didn’t make states, they still had many accomplishments of their own, and had a great season overall.

The girls’ swim & dive team finished their season with a record of 4-4. They ranked 5th place in the NVLs. Four of their swimmers, Nadia Andarowski, Emily Kiernan, Maggie Hines, and Jasmine Pham, had also made states.

The football team ended the season with a record of 4-6, finishing the season with a nice win on Thanksgiving against Torrington with a final score of 33 to 6. They may have come across obstacles, but they showed improvement and won multiple games!
